What is IPL?
IPL stands for intense pulsed light. The machine contains a flash lamp, this is an extremely bright light source. IPL is also used to treat red birth marks, pigmented lesions and unwanted hair.
What does the treatment involve?
On the first treatment the whole of the affected area will be treated, except in men where the beard area is avoided. There is a feeling of heat during the treatment and the face will be redder for a short while afterwards. Cooling packs can be applied afterwards. A course of 4-6 treatments at 4 week intervals produces the best benefit. Improvement may continue for many weeks after the course has finished.
How does it work?
IPL works best at removing hair when it’s in the active growth phase. But not all the hair in the treatment area will be in this phase at any given time. This is why it is best to spread IPL treatments out over a period of time. This is to make sure that hair which isn’t treated in one session is affected in the next. The way hair grows is slightly different for everyone, so tailor the treatment to suit your client. The Nexus has a Dual Phase Pulse which is designed to provide more efficient destruction of hair follicles than a standard IPL. It removes hair by sending out high-energy light pulses. There are actually two beams of light, one yellow and one red, which together affect both the existing hair and the follicles where the hair grows.
